CTC Dudley - 2012 News

Jackie Fones is to be congratulated for winning the 'Rides Attendance Cup' for the second year running - well done, Jackie.

The cup was presented to Jackie at the club's annual luncheon at the Red Lion Bobbington.

Area CTC Social Ride.

At the end of May CTC Dudley organised an 18 mile circular social ride for CTC West Midlands members. Sixteen CTC members started from Fortnocks Health Club in Kingswinford and took country lanes to Bobbington and then on to the Red Lion ( how did that happen?).  From there we made our way to Himley Hall Park to watch Dragon Boat Races.
We also took time out to celebrate a memberís birthday. A good day and great to meet up with other CTC members.

Day Ride to Rayís Farm

This was a tough but rewarding day out, led by Jackie Fones. We called in at the Severn Valley Visitor Centre and then made our way through  to Rayís Farm. Despite early evidence of storms and heavy rain it became a flaming June day, with a good tail wind.  Progress was slowed down by fallen trees on the Jack Mitten Way.   At Rayís Farm we had the usual treat of tea and cakes and also a comprehensive display of owls.  ( Did you know an owl turns its head because it cannot move its eyes- interesting that).

Car /Cycle. Dolgellau Wales

In May of this year a group of members travelled to Dolgellau in Wales for a 2 day tour.
Most of us travelled by car but one intrepid member cycled there and back. Overnight stays ranged from YHA to caravans and B&B, and we came together for the two tours and social evenings.

The Saturday tour was 36 miles, circumnavigating Cader Idris, both on and off road. The weather was wonderful and allowed spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the Mawddach estuary.

The Sunday tour covered flatter terrain, travelling along the Mawddach Trail. This 18 mile round trip to Barmouth brought us conveniently back to the George III Hotel for refreshments.  This was a great 2 day trip, enjoyed by all.

Coach Trip to the National Cycle Collection.

19 members and non-members came together in April to go to the National Cycle Museum in Wales.  Although it was wet and cold it was both an informative and sociable day. Freda Davis, curator of the museum, was welcoming and accommodating to our group. We had a great day out which allowed us to talk of cycles of yester year and to look around Llandrindod Wells

CTC Dudley - 2011 News

Over the past year CTC Dudley have had a wide range of cycle trips. We have extensively toured the West Midlands, the Severn Valley and some of the Welsh Marches. Our members have also extended their cycle touring beyond the UK, including the Mosel valley in Germany and the Grand Canyon Rim in America. Our members have attended the CTC Birthday Rides, the York Rally , and the Alliance International Tourism (AIT) Rally in Belgium Ardennes.

For outstanding achievement this year we have awarded our Rides Attendance cup to Jackie Fones. Please see the photograph of Jackie Fones being presented with the cup by me at our annual Christmas Lunch. Well done, Jackie.

As well as cycle touring , we also continue with our social activities at our monthly meetings. They are held on the first Friday of every month at the Kingswinford Community Centre, High Street, Kingswinford; 8.00 to 10.00pm. Come along for a chat, we will be pleased to meet you.

Phil Speed.

Chairman, CTC Dudley.
